This week we profile musician Joseph G. Vincent from Canada. Joseph: It is unique and down to earth, organic. Joseph: My Faith, the outdoors, and the things that life throws at me and at other people. Joseph: None whatsoever. I think when a musician models another he looses his own unique creativity. I believe that uniqueness is needed in music these days. Joseph: I play a Hammered Dulcimer. This instrument dates back to the 10th century in Egypt. It is also the forerunner of the piano. The one I play has over 77 strings. It is played with sticks or (hammers). The Lap Dulcimer or Mountain Dulcimer is simple to play. It has only 4 strings and is strummed like a guitar but it sits on the lap. I also play piano, acoustic guitar, bass, harmonica, tin flute, recorder, various percussion instruments and drums. MyBandMate: What tips for young song writers could you provide? Joseph: Be real, be yourself, be creative, have fun, sing from the heart and do not compete for "who is the Better band." Every Musician has his or hers own ability and unique sound. Joseph: I have only performed my own music in a very small way publicly. I really enjoy playing, writing and recording for the enjoyment of it. So I do both, but not a lot of it live. I have played in other local bands in the past. Joseph: macjams, bandamp, musicforte, motagator, mymusicstream, world music service, Xiie, maccaca, Jamendo, digital drum, motionbeatz and others. Joseph: I live in British Columbia, Canada Joseph: No, I do not play in a band now but I have had experience in playing in a few bands. Joseph: Rich Mullins, Mark Heard, Jeff Johnson, America, Gordon Lightfoot, Bread, Steven Curtis Chapman, Randy Stonehill, Amy Grant, Chicago. Joseph: I have used a Fostex 4 tracker (with Cassette) and a Boss Micro BR. I recommend that you don't overdue your spending on equipment, just only what you can afford and need. Joseph: I am a simple musician and I record a lot of my songs spontaneously. That is, I record the first and main music track spontaneously. Whatever comes out is what you get.
